In Sri Lanka, Children’s Day is celebrated on 01st October annually with the intention of increasing public awareness about the rights of children.
Many instances have been reported in the recent past when children have been subject to severe forms of physical and psychological abuse. Any child who suffers from starvation, is trafficked, abused or in circumstances which do not permit them to live a carefree life is an instance when society has not performed its duty to protect the defenseless child and assist them.
Lets hope that this Children’s Day will raise greater awareness of the need for everyone to contribute towards the upliftment of our kids and the necessity of creating an environment in which the younger generation can thrive and reach their true potential.
The United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of the Child has stated that “mankind owes to the child the best it has to give”.
The time to alleviate the problems faced by kids the world over is now. Never miss an opportunity to tell your child you love them
